SPOM Portal Login Problems and How to Fix Them
Three portals, one set of credentials, and a handful of problems that catch almost everyone. Sorted by what you are actually seeing on screen.
Verify current procedures and contacts on the ICAI portal
Which portal does what
Most portal problems are really navigation problems. Three separate ICAI systems are involved and they do different things.
| Portal | Address | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| SSP | eservices.icai.org | Your master student record. Photo, signature, email, mobile. Also the source of your login credentials. |
| LMS | lms.icai.org | Complete learning hours. Study content, e-books, video lectures. |
| SPMT | spmt.icai.org | Book test slots, pay the fee, download admit card, check results. |
You log in to SPMT using your SSP credentials. There is no separate SPMT username or password to create. If you are looking for a registration link to make a new SPMT account, that is why you cannot find one.
Login problems
“I cannot find where to create an SPMT account”
You do not create one. Use your existing SSP credentials at spmt.icai.org.
“My SSP password is not working”
Reset it through the SSP portal at eservices.icai.org rather than through SPMT. Since SPMT draws on SSP credentials, fixing it at source fixes it everywhere.
“The portal is not loading at all”
Check whether ICAI has announced a maintenance window. The SPMT portal is periodically taken offline for maintenance and upgradation, with slot booking suspended during that period. These suspensions are announced in advance on the ICAI website with the dates booking closes and resumes.
ICAI publishes portal suspension notices on its website. A portal that will not load during an announced maintenance window is working exactly as intended, and no amount of clearing your browser cache will change that.
Modules not appearing
The single most common complaint, and it almost always has the same cause.
Check your learning hours for that specific module
Hours are tracked per module, not overall. Completing 40 hours for Set A does not unlock Set B. Go to the LMS and check the completion status for the exact module you are trying to book.
Allow time for the status to update
There can be a lag between finishing the content and the completion status registering. Give it time before concluding there is a fault.
Confirm you are otherwise eligible
You must have qualified CA Intermediate and registered for the CA Final course. Both conditions are enforced by the portal.
Check whether you already have a booking in that set
Only one paper from Set C or Set D can be booked at a time. If you have completed hours for two Set C papers and already booked one, the second will not appear until the first is resolved.
Still nothing? Contact the helpdesk
If hours are genuinely complete, you are eligible, and no maintenance is in progress, raise it with the SPMT helpdesk rather than waiting.
Payment problems
ICAI states this expressly. Payment can fail because of low bandwidth, slow response from the bank, or students refreshing the page repeatedly during the transaction. The money leaving your account is not confirmation of anything.
Preventing the problem
- Use a stable connection rather than patchy mobile data.
- Do not refresh the page while the payment is processing, however slow it seems.
- Wait for the transaction to complete fully.
- Return to the dashboard and confirm the booking shows as confirmed.
- Save or print the confirmation.
If it has already happened
- Do not pay again immediately. A second payment creates a second problem rather than solving the first.
- Check the dashboard. The booking may have gone through despite the appearance of failure.
- If nothing appears after a reasonable interval, contact the SPMT helpdesk with your transaction details.
Wrong photo, signature or details
Photograph, signature, email address and mobile number cannot be updated on the SPMT portal. This catches a great many students, usually when they see the admit card.
The correct sequence:
Update on SSP first
Go to eservices.icai.org and make the correction there. SSP is the master record and everything else draws from it.
Intimate the SPMT helpdesk
Contact the helpdesk so that the updated information is taken across from the SSP portal. The change does not always propagate automatically.
Verify on the admit card
Re-download the admit card and confirm the corrected detail now appears.
Five minutes verifying your photo, signature and name on SSP before you book removes this entire category of problem. Discovering a mismatch the night before the test is a much worse position to be in.
Contacting the helpdesk
ICAI provides a dedicated helpline for Self-Paced Module Test queries. The email address published in the SPMT FAQ is spmt_examhelpline@icai.in, used for matters such as having updated information taken across from the SSP portal.
When you contact them, include:
- Your student registration number.
- The module concerned.
- A clear description of the problem and what you have already tried.
- Transaction details, if the issue involves payment.
- Screenshots where they help.
Helpline addresses and support channels are updated from time to time. Check the current details on the ICAI website or in the latest SPMT FAQ before writing.
Frequently asked questions
What login do I use for SPMT?
Your SSP credentials. There is no separate SPMT account to create.
Why can I not see my module on the portal?
Usually because learning hours for that specific module are not yet complete on the LMS. Hours are tracked per module, not overall.
How do I change my photo or signature?
Update on the SSP portal at eservices.icai.org, then inform the SPMT helpdesk. It cannot be done on SPMT directly.
The fee was deducted but no booking appeared. Should I pay again?
No. Check the dashboard first, then contact the helpdesk with the transaction details.
The portal will not load. Is it broken?
Check for a maintenance announcement on the ICAI website. Slot booking is periodically suspended for portal upgradation.
Can I book two papers from Set C at once?
No. Only one paper from a set may be booked at a time, which is why the second may not appear.
Where do I check results?
On the SPMT portal dashboard, against your booking.
